1. India: 94 on the Global Hunger Index 2020
Out of a total of 107 Countries, India was reportedly placed at 94th position on the Global Hunger Index 2020 in the serious hunger category.
In the 2019 Index, India was ranked at 102nd position.
What is Global Hunger Index?
The Global Hunger Index is a tool that measures and tracks hunger globally as well as by region and by country. The GHI is calculated annually, and its results appear in a report issued in October each year.
2. BrahMos test-fired : DRDO
On October 18, 2020, the supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos , was successfully test-fired from an indigenously built stealth destroyer of the Indian Navy, INS Chennai.
According to The Defence Research and Development Organisation - DRDO, the missile hit the target successfully in the Arabian Sea.
i) The name BrahMos is formed by combining the name of two rivers - The Brahmaputra of India & The Moskva of Russia.
ii) The BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile which can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. It is the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world.
3. Delhi Govt to run 50 HCNG Buses
Delhi Government is all set to put in their effort in order to combat air pollution in the capital, from October 20,2020 onwards the government has planned to run 50 HCNG-based buses throughout the city.
What is HCNG & it's benifits?
HCNG or H2CNG is a mixture of compressed natural gas and 4–9 % hydrogen by energy.
i) HCNG is easier and safer to use the becauseit contains low energy content.
ii) Hydrogen-enriched CNG reduces the emissions of engine's unburned hydrocarbon and fastens up the combustion process.
4. Women's empowerment in UP : Mission Shakti campaign
On17.10.2020 Uttar Pradesh's CM Yogi Adityanath launched the Mission Shakti campaign.
Aim of the Campaign: The foremost aim of the campaign would be to organise programmes to train women to become self-reliant and to raise awareness about women's safety and empowerment.
Where will the first campaign be held?
To pay homage to the victim of a very unfortunate incident, the CM has decided to kick off the Mission Shakti Campaign from Balrampur.
5. Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
On October 19.10.2020, the 17th Meeting of Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation -SCO, Member States was hosted by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law & Justice, Communication and Electronics & Information Technology.
Key Features of the Joint Statement:
i) Strengthening of the work and the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Ministries of Justice of the SCO Member States.
ii) To continue putting in efforts to develop an online platform for the exchange of legal information, taking into account national laws.
iii) Consider organising exchange programs for representatives of the ministries to study the best practices in alternative dispute resolution.
6. Vishal V Sharma: India's representative to the UNESCO
Vishal V Sharma has been selected as the next permanent representative of India to the the Permanent Delegation of United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization - UNESCO, in succession to Shri Jawed Ashraf.

7. Pakistan rally for PM Imran Khan’s Ouster
On October 18,2020 thousands of opposition supporters in Pakistan rallied in Karachi as part of a campaign to oust PM Imran Khan. Even the opposition leaders arrived0 for the power show of the joint opposition front- Pakistan Democratic Movement against the government in power.
This was the second show of power of the 11-party opposition alliance PDM.
The first one was held in Gujranwala in Lahore.
8. India- Bangladesh will restart flights under air-bubble
From October 28.2020, India and Bangladesh have agrred to resume the flight services. Bangladesh government announced that three Bangladeshi Airlines will initially be operating 28 flights a week to India, from Dhaka to Kolkata, Delhi, and Chennai.
Indian Airlines who will Fly to Bangladesh: Five Indian airlines including - Vistara, Air India, GoAir, Spicejet, and Indigo will be running 28 flights a week between the neighbouring countries.
Departure & Arrival Points in India: The Indian Airlines will be operating the flights from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to Dhaka.
What is an Air Bubble Agreement?
Air Bubble Agreements are temporary arrangements between two countries which aims at restarting commercial passenger services while regular international flights are suspended as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
